Congressman Pat Ryan Delivers Safer Streets for Dutchess County Families

Ryan secured $160,000 for Town of Hyde Park to develop comprehensive plan to reduce traffic fatalities and improve safety for all road users

HYDE PARK, NY –  Today, Congressman Pat Ryan secured $160,000 for the Town of Hyde Park to bolster road safety for families, pedestrians, drivers, and all road users. The funding will be used to develop its own comprehensive road safety action plan to reduce traffic fatalities. Ryan previously secured nearly $600,000 for safe streets infrastructure projects in Warwick and Goshen in December of 2023.

“Improved street planning not only saves lives - it transforms daily life, from getting kids to school safely to increasing foot traffic that helps our small businesses thrive,” said Congressman Pat Ryan. “I’m proud that these funds from the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will help bolster road safety in Dutchess County for pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and all road users. I’ll keep fighting to bring home more of the landmark BIL funding to help our communities thrive.”

“We give thanks to Congressmen Pat Ryan for this award,” said Hyde Park Supervisor Al Torreggiani. “We appreciate how Congressmen Ryan looks past party lines and is always helping in ways like this. He truly is a bipartisan congressman and shows the example of what leading should be like. Thank you, Congressman Ryan, a leader and friend to Hyde Park.”

Congressman Ryan is a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and secured these funds for Hyde Park, from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL)’s Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant Program administered by the Department of Transportation (DOT). Last year, Ryan secured $406,167 for Warwick and $191,180 for Goshen in Safe Streets for All funding to complete major roadway safety infrastructure projects and planning.

With its funding, the Town of Hyde Park aims to improve walkability and safety by developing transportation infrastructure for pedestrians and bicyclists. This will benefit residents and visitors who are currently separated from downtown amenities by U.S. Highway Route 9. An Action Plan is the first step towards the Town's goal of eradicating unnecessary traffic injuries and fatalities. To achieve this, the town will collaborate with community partners, organizations, and disadvantaged residents to create an equitable plan that addresses the needs of all Town residents and visitors. The Action Plan is expected to encourage synergy among transportation infrastructure, enhance resident life and safety, and propose implementation measures to increase walkability and overall transportation safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists in Hyde Park.

Ryan recently brought DOT leadership to Stewart International Airport to discuss future partnerships and investments in Hudson Valley transportation and infrastructure. Ryan followed up the visit by securing over $24 million in funding from the DOT to complete crucial runway repairs and overhauls at Stewart.  Ryan has delivered numerous DOT grants to the Hudson Valley, including the historic $21.7 million RAISE grant received by Kingston and $4.75 million for safety and infrastructure improvements at Hudson Valley Regional and Orange County Airports.

The Hudson Valley has benefited from extensive investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, including the recently initiated rehabilitation of the Route 52 bridge over I-84 in Newburgh.

Ryan’s work with the DOT was crucial to securing the investments that reopened the Route 9W-Popolopen Bridge months ahead of schedule after it sustained damage during the catastrophic July 2023 flooding in the Hudson Valley.

Congressman Ryan has been a staunch advocate for infrastructure projects that improve road safety, including the recent installment of the crash gate on I-84 in Orange County at the site of last fall’s fatal bus crash.
