Recently elected U.S. Rep Pat Ryan held a ceremonial in-district swearing-in ceremony Saturday.
The event also served as an open house with his staff to help constituents from across the 19th congressional district access services from federal agencies, Ryan’s office said in a statement. U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-New York, attended the event.
“I promised all of you I’d bring the fight for our fundamental freedoms down to Washington, and we are certainly hitting the ground running,” Ryan said in a prepared statement. “In just the last two weeks, I’ve helped pass a number of critical pieces of legislation, including increased funding for our local police departments, a bill to reform the Electoral Count Act so that there will never be another Jan. 6, and sanctions against supporters of Putin’s unjust war in Ukraine.
Ryan also touted his record on the “Protecting Reproductive Freedom Act” which he said would protect a women’s right to healthcare.
“A woman’s right to choose is one of this country’s foundational freedoms, and there is no place for government interference in these private medical decisions,” Ryan said.
