Congressman Pat Ryan Announces $1M in Funding for Ellenville Regional Hospital as Part of Opioid Response Program

Investment will strengthen and expand substance use disorder (SUD), including opioid use disorder (OUD) prevention, treatment, and recovery services

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  Today, Congressman Pat Ryan announced $1,000,000 in funding for Ellenville Regional Hospital as part of the Opioid Response Program.

"As County Executive, I made reinvesting in mental health care a top priority after a decade of neglect, fighting hard to build first-in-class mental health and addiction programs and a crisis stabilization center. I am proud to be continuing that important work in Congress,” said Representative Pat Ryan. “Our rural communities have been deeply impacted by the opioid crisis, and this funding will allow the expansion of crucial treatments and preventative services for substance use. We need to leverage every tool at our disposal to address the opioid and overdose epidemic, and this funding represents a huge step forward for New York’s 19th Congressional District.”

“The opioid epidemic has been particularly difficult for rural areas like Ellenville, and this funding will transform our ability to both prevent and treat opioid use disorder in the region,” said Steven L. Kelley, FACHE, President & CEO of Ellenville Regional Hospital. “I want to thank Congressman Ryan for his assistance in securing this grant, which will allow us to hire the highest quality professionals in this most important space as we combat the ongoing opioid crisis.”

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), is investing directly in the nation’s rural communities. HHS’ HRSA has announced investments of more than $104 million to expand treatment and prevention services for substance use, included medications for OUD, in rural communities nationwide as part of its Rural Communities Opioid Response Program, a multi-year initiative aimed at reducing the morbidity and mortality of rural Americans from substance use disorder.
