WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Pat Ryan, a West Point graduate who served two combat tours in Iraq, was appointed to the House Armed Services Committee.
The House Armed Services Committee, chaired by Adam Smith (D-WA), provides oversight of and funding for the Department of Defense, the U.S. Armed Forces and portions of the Department of Energy. Each year, it is tasked with drafting the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which lays out the annual budget and expenditures of the Department of Defense.
As Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, I am very proud to welcome Representative Pat Ryan to this important body of Congress,” said Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. “As a West Point graduate and decorated Army veteran, Rep. Ryan will bring valuable experience and insight to HASC Democrats’ combined decades of expertise, advocacy, and outcomes for those who serve our country in uniform and their families. I look forward to working with him as we fight to strengthen our country’s national security by equipping our service members with what they need to defend us and by investing in them and their families.”
“When I graduated from West Point eighteen years ago, I took a solemn oath to protect and defend our Constitution and our country – it is my great honor to continue that service as the newest member of the House Armed Services Committee,” said Representative Ryan. “As a combat veteran myself, I am committed to supporting our men and women serving in uniform, reforming military procurement, and strengthening the role Congress must play in military conflict. I look forward to working with my colleagues to preserve and promote America’s security, prosperity and values both at home and abroad.”
