Congressman Pat Ryan Celebrates Dutchess County High School Students on Winning NY-18 Congressional App Challenge with “Invest4Better”

The Congressional App Challenge encourages tech innovation among middle and high school students

WASHINGTON, DC  –  Today, Congressman Pat Ryan announced high school students Rishabh Nambiar, Joseph Marra, and Abhay Gupta, as the winners of the 2024 NY-18 Congressional App Challenge for their creation of “Invest4Better,” an app designed to help new investors make informed and sustainable investment decisions.

“Every year, the Congressional App Challenge gives young people across the Hudson Valley a chance to demonstrate their entrepreneurial spirit,” said Congressman Pat Ryan. “I am so impressed by the innovation these students have shown: not only did they build a functioning, well-made app, they’ve also created something that will help the planet. Well done Rishabh, Joseph, and Abhay– our entire Hudson Valley community can’t wait to see what you all do next!”

“Winning the Congressional App Challenge has been an incredible experience,” said Rishabh Nambiar, a student from Fishkill. “I really appreciate the support from Congressman Ryan’s office. I’m proud of what my friends and I have accomplished with Invest4Better, and am glad to know that there is enthusiasm for what I and others of my generation will make next.”

“Developing Invest4Better.org was an exciting task. Starting with a high level problem and solving it with code along with my friends Abhay and Rishabh was something I loved doing,” said Joseph Marra. “I had the amazing opportunity to talk with other winners and Congressman Ryan, demonstrating the app at #HouseOfCode. I learned about new ways to use technology in innovative ways, but I learned more about the impact and connection that a shared excitement for solving problems with code can bring.”

The Congressional App Challenge is a competition organized by Members of Congress across the country for middle school and high school students to create their own software applications and gain experience with computer coding.

According to the founders, Invest4Better was inspired by the pressing need to address environmental sustainability. The team was motivated by the significant impact that large corporations have on greenhouse gas emissions and the belief that individual investors can drive change by supporting companies that prioritize sustainability.

Invest4Better is a web application designed to help new investors make informed and sustainable investment decisions. By providing a streamlined process to analyze companies, Invest4Better features easy-to-read tables that condense financial metrics and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) scores. The app also includes AI-generated recommendations, allowing investors to identify opportunities that align with their financial goals and values. This promotes responsible investing that benefits both the investor’s wallet and the planet.
