Congressman Pat Ryan Commemorates Veterans Day, Urges Congress to Stand by His Fellow Veterans

KINGSTON, NY –  Congressman Pat Ryan issued the following statement in commemoration of Veterans Day:

"Veterans Day is an opportunity for all of us to remember what makes this country so special,” said Congressman Pat Ryan. “Regardless of religion, race, or political party, we are united in our gratitude to the veterans who served this country so that we can live peacefully in the land we are all so fortunate to call home. It is a day to remember there is so much more that unites us than divides us, to remember what brings us together as a nation. To all of my fellow veterans in this district and across this country, I give my thanks. “

“Today is also an opportunity to remember that we still have a long way to go when it comes to delivering the support my fellow veterans have earned and deserve,” continued Congressman Ryan. “We have people who quite literally put their lives on the line for this country, and come back unable to find a job, put a roof over their heads, or get the education they deserve. It is disgraceful, and I will not rest until we fix it. I’m urging Congress to stand up and fight for my brothers and sisters who served this country bravely in uniform, the same way they fought for all of us.”

Congressman Ryan, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, served two combat tours in Iraq as an Army Intelligence Officer following his graduation from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He is a co-sponsor of the Veteran Suicide Prevention Act, the PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Program Act, and the Expanding the Families of Veterans Access to Mental Health Services Act. His bill, the Expanding Home Loans for Guard and Reservists Act, passed the House in a bipartisan vote in September.
