Congressman Pat Ryan Delivers High-Impact Funding for Local Law Enforcement
Secures $300,000 for Middletown Police Department to Bolster Technology Investments
MIDDLETOWN, NY – Today, Congressman Pat Ryan delivered $300,000 for the Middletown Police Department to bolster public safety efforts. The funds will be used for new surveillance cameras and modernized analytic technology which will allow the Department to better prevent, respond to, and investigate crime in the city, particularly in the Business Improvement District.
“Our police departments serve and protect our communities but often lack the resources necessary to carry out the enormous responsibilities entrusted to them. I’m proud to deliver this critical funding that will help keep Middletown safe ” said Congressman Pat Ryan. “I look forward to my continued partnership with Mayor DeStefano and Chief Ewanciw to ensure our local law enforcement gets the resources they need.
“As our vibrant downtown continues to grow, it's critical that we expand our public safety technology to meet that need,” said Middletown Mayor Joseph DeStefano. “I’m proud that this investment in state of the art technology for our police department will help our Business Improvement District continue to be a safe and welcoming space for our families and small business owners. Thank you to Congressman Ryan for his continued collaboration in delivering for the Middletown community. ”
“Over the past several years, the City of Middletown has made substantial investments in improving our infrastructure and has developed new facilities that have attracted thousands of new residents and businesses to our community,” said Middletown Police Chief John Ewanciw. “This grant will allow us to safeguard our investments through the installation of public surveillance cameras at high traffic and high value locations, which will incorporate the latest cutting-edge monitoring software that will allow the police department to more efficiently and effectively respond to the needs of our city. We are very excited for this opportunity and look forward to bringing these enhanced capabilities to the department!”
The $300,000 grant awarded to the Middletown Police Department is funded by the Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services’ Technology and Equipment Program.
Congressman Ryan has long advocated for increased funding for law enforcement and first responders, including making repeated calls for increased funding to combat fentanyl trafficking and cosponsoring legislation to establish a grant program to provide additional assistance to local law enforcement agencies. Last October, Congressman Ryan joined with local law enforcement to announce the passage of the Invest to Protect Act and that over $2.6 million in federal funds were secured for local law enforcement agencies through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program.
