Congressman Pat Ryan Puts Money Back in Hudson Valley Families’ Pockets and Ensures Government Works for the People, Surpassing $40 Million Returned to Constituents
Through assistance with federal agencies including Social Security and the IRS, Congressman Ryan and his team of highly skilled caseworkers have helped recover more than $40 million owed to Hudson Valley families by the federal government
KINGSTON, NY – Today, Congressman Pat Ryan celebrated putting money back in Hudson Valley families' pockets and ensuring that government works for the people, announcing alongside his team of highly skilled caseworkers that his office has recovered more than $40 million in benefits returned/owed to the Hudson Valley community.
“I’m fighting every day to deliver relief for constituents feeling the pressure of making ends meet – especially as we all navigate recent cuts to federal assistance. You shouldn’t have to spend weeks on the phone getting the runaround from different federal agencies to receive the support you deserve and benefits you’re owed,” said Congressman Pat Ryan. “From helping Beth from Ulster Park access her father’s VA compensation for exposure to Agent Orange to securing delayed tax refunds for Fredrique and Daniel in Red Hook, my office is here to help every constituent in need. I’ll keep fighting to make the government function the right way, for the people it is meant to serve and against anyone who would do them harm.”
“I contacted the office of Congressman Ryan to assist my father with his VA Compensation and Pension exams due to exposure to Agent Orange during the Vietnam War,” said Beth Green of Ulster Park. “Destiny, Congressman Ryan’s veterans affairs caseworker, took over contacting the scheduling company for these exams to occur, and I was able to focus on spending valuable time with my father, instead of worrying about the VA and the multiple hoops that my father was made to jump through.”
“As a disabled army veteran of 15 years, I needed to file for Social Security to afford life’s day-to-day expenses, but my case wasn’t being resolved and I hadn’t received the benefits I needed in over three years. I was unable to resolve the issue myself and was suffering financially,” said Pleasant Valley veteran Desarae Paganelli. “This caused stress for me and my service dog. I reached out to Congressman Ryan’s office for assistance. They pushed through my paperwork and I received my benefits shortly thereafter. Now, being able to be in a safe environment and having the ability to provide for basic human needs has ensured a more positive quality of life.”
“Congressman Pat Ryan and his team, particularly Wendy, helped us get our 2023 tax refund which we had waited for over a year,” said Fredrique Linnea and Daniel Brown of Red Hook. “The IRS never explained to us why it was held up but with their assistance we got our deserved refund. So for all of them I say thank you, thank you, thank you. My wife and I are seniors who depend on our yearly refund and are very satisfied with the resolution.”
“My husband, a Vietnam veteran, died before his claim for Agent Orange exposure-related illnesses was adjudicated by the VA. I asked Congressman Pat Ryan's office to join my team in navigating the VA,” said Mardi Mauney of Rhinebeck. “His staff was always pleasant, helpful, and kept me updated. They never gave up! The claims have all been resolved since contacting his office. I am very grateful for all the help from Congressman Pat Ryan's office and very pleased that he is in Washington to support veterans.”
“I will forever be grateful to Congressman Ryan and Wendy for their help. I am going through long term cancer care and was in extreme need of my IRS tax refund,” said Mark P. of Newburgh. “We submitted everything appropriately and the IRS made a mistake with the processing on their end. They have a ridiculous timeframe to process an amended form and receive the refund. My problem was corrected within three days of contacting the Congressman. Heartfelt gratitude!!!”
“I want to express my sincere gratitude for Congressman Ryan’s office's exceptional assistance with my Social Security Disability claim,” said a Red Hook constituent. “After ten months of no communication from the Social Security Administration, I was incredibly frustrated by the delays. His team's prompt response and dedication were truly impressive. I was so relieved to receive a call from his office the day after I submitted my inquiry, and I am delighted that the delay was resolved in less than 30 days. His commitment to serving his constituents is truly commendable. Thank you again to Congressman Ryan and his office for their outstanding support.”
Congressman Ryan’s office offers assistance to constituents of New York’s 18th Congressional District with access earned benefits, such as Veterans’ Affairs benefits and Social Security, federal grant funding, passports and visas, immigration and naturalization services, and resolving issues with federal agencies, such as the Internal Revenue Service.
Congressman Ryan has prioritized increasing the accessibility of these services. He introduced his Constituent Advocacy Resources Empowerment Services (C.A.R.E.S.) Van, which has traveled across the district, delivering services to constituents at events throughout the summer. The schedule of C.A.R.E.S. events for August can be found here, with updates provided via social media.
