Congressman Pat Ryan Votes to Prevent Government Shutdown and Protect Veterans, Seniors, and Kids
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Pat Ryan released the following statement on today’s vote to prevent a government shutdown and ensure our troops get paid, Social Security offices remain open, and hungry children have food to eat.
"For weeks, far-right MAGA extremists have threatened a government shutdown unless we accept cuts to critical programs that Hudson Valley veterans, seniors, and children rely on. Today, I voted alongside a bipartisan coalition to prevent those cuts and pass a bill that keeps the government open," said Congressman Pat Ryan. "But this measure is only a short-term fix. I will continue relentlessly pushing for Congress to come together as patriots and deliver long-term solutions for the American people.
Today’s bill would extend government funding through November 17th, and would extend several other programs that expire on September 30th including the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Flood Insurance Program, and the Community Health Centers and Pandemic Preparedness Authorities. This legislation would also allow for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program to continue to enroll low-income pregnant, infants, and children who are at nutritional risk.
