KINGSTON, NY – Today, Congressman Pat Ryan announced that his mobile office, the Constituent Advocacy Resources Empowerment Services (C.A.R.E.S.) Van, will be partnering with law enforcement departments across the Hudson Valley to deliver government services at National Night Out events next Tuesday, August 5, 2025. Congressman Ryan’s C.A.R.E.S. Van, staffed by his team of highly-trained caseworkers, brings direct assistance with federal agencies like the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the IRS, and more to Hudson Valley families right in their own neighborhoods. National Night Out is an annual community-building event bringing local law enforcement officers together with neighborhood families for celebratory events.
“On National Night Out, we come together across the Hudson Valley to celebrate local law enforcement and strengthen community bonds between neighbors and first responders,” said Congressman Pat Ryan. “I’m proud that my team will be at events throughout NY-18, cutting through bureaucratic red tape for families in every corner of our community. My team and I will also continue to bring assistance with accessing federal grants to our local law enforcement departments, as I continue my work to make grants more accessible for Hudson Valley police departments through my “More Funding for COPS Act.” Taking care of our cops is how we come together and deliver safer communities for our families that we can celebrate every day of the year.”
“National Night Out is all about bringing our community together, celebrating local law enforcement, and strengthening the relationships between our officers, our local government, and the people that we serve,” said Middletown Chief of Police John Ewanciw. “I’m glad to welcome Congressman Ryan to Middletown for this important event, because we can all serve our community better when we work together. I’ve also been proud to partner with the Congressman on the Invest to Protect Act – critical legislation that will help fully fund Middletown PD and keep the entire Hudson Valley safe. I hope our whole community shows up next week for the festivities!”
“I’m excited to welcome Congressman Ryan and community members across Warwick to celebrate National Night Out with us next week,” said Warwick Chief of Police John Rader. “National Night Out is a time to come together as a community and highlight the important work our officers do to protect Hudson Valley families. I truly hope everyone stops by for the event, and to meet with officers who work every day to keep our entire community safe.”
“The New Paltz Police Department is looking forward to hosting our second annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5th,” said New Paltz Chief of Police Matthew Sutton. “I’d like to thank the groups that helped make it possible, including Congressman Pat Ryan’s Office, Shoprite, Top’s Friendly Market, Bruderhof, DJ Jay Smooth, Ulster County Mobile Mental Health, Ulster County Crime Victims, and Lowes. It will be a night of family fun, food, and music. We are looking forward to another wonderful event.”
“National Night Out provides a great opportunity for community engagement with City of Poughkeepsie Police staff and the community,” said City of Poughkeepsie Police Chief Rich Wilson. “The City of Poughkeepsie goes above and beyond in displaying our civic pride to our community. We bring in community resource partners, police & fire equipment, food, and entertainment for our children. Most importantly, we have numerous officers at the event engaging in conversations and interacting in many ways with our residents and visitors. Our officers look forward to the event as much as our community!”
Throughout his time in office, Congressman Ryan has elevated delivering for Hudson Valley law enforcement agencies. In honor of National Police Week this year, Congressman Ryan introduced the “More Funding for COPS Act” to make it easier for Hudson Valley police departments to access federal funding to bolster safety and officer retention.
Congressman Ryan has long advocated for increased funding for law enforcement and first responders through the COPS program – additional funding would help allow the COPS Office to increase its grant programs that support local law enforcement and community safety initiatives across the country.
In 2023, Congressman Ryan secured a $300,000 COPS grant for the Middletown Police Department to upgrade their technology investments. Later that year, he secured an additional $400,000 in COPS funding for the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office to implement a crisis intervention response team and combat the opioid crisis. Most recently Congressman Ryan secured a $375,000 COPS grant for the Town of Poughkeepsie to build a new Community Policing Unit to boost public safety.
Additionally, Ryan co-sponsors the “Invest to Protect Act,” critical bipartisan legislation to increase funding for local police departments. He is also one of two Democrats to co-sponsor the “HALT Fentanyl Act” – recently signed into law by President Trump – to equip law enforcement officers with the tools they need to protect their communities from drug trafficking.
Congressman Ryan’s C.A.R.E.S. Van assists constituents of NY-18 in accessing earned benefits, such as Veterans’ Affairs benefits and Social Security, federal grant funding, passports and visas, immigration and naturalization services, and resolving issues with federal agencies, such as the Internal Revenue Service.
